Han Soju California-based premium soju brand leverages innovative distribution model to unlock new growth channels and redefine on-premise cocktail programs
Since its founding in 2002, Han Soju has pursued a clear mission: to elevate the soju category with a premium, high-quality offering while empowering California’s beer and wine-licensed establishments to deliver full craft cocktail experiences without the need for a full liquor license.
Unlike traditional green-bottle soju brands, Han Soju was developed specifically for the U.S. market—particularly California—where regulatory frameworks allow soju, a distilled spirit, to be sold in on-premise venues with beer and wine licenses. By offering soju-based alternatives to bar staples such as vodka, tequila, rum, whiskey, and cinnamon liqueur, Han enables restaurants and bars to expand their beverage programs and increase profitability through cocktails.
Growth has been strong, even as they navigated the realities of a traditional distribution system. Positioned between wine and spirits distributors—who often prioritize full liquor accounts—and beer distributors, which focus on large-scale beer brands, Han Soju operates in a unique space. In some cases, this meant our key accounts required more tailored support than standard models typically provide, which could lead to longer onboarding timelines, higher delivery minimums, and occasional fulfillment challenges.
To better align with the needs of our accounts, we signed with LibDib, a technology-driven distribution platform designed to enhance speed, flexibility, and accessibility.
“LibDib is able to serve any account quickly and efficiently,” said Chris Alpers, CEO of Han Soju. “The web-based platform was easy to use, and we immediately saw the value in taking a more hands-on approach to our growth.”
Through LibDib’s streamlined onboarding, low one-case minimums, and typical two-day delivery window across the entire state, Han Soju removed traditional barriers to entry and unlocked a broader range of accounts—from small independent bars to emerging restaurant groups. The platform also enabled Han to pursue and develop deeper relationships, transforming previously overlooked accounts into a scalable growth engine.
As a LibDib Maker, Han Soju built out its internal sales infrastructure, hiring dedicated personnel and placing senior leadership to oversee execution. With LibDib managing the sale and logistics—including order processing, fulfillment, billing, tax compliance, and collections—the Han team focused on brand building, education, and relationship development.
“LibDib is how a distributor should work,” Alpers added. “We drive relationships and demand. The rest is seamless.”
The company focuses on the On-Premise Beer and Wine-licensed account segment. In these environments, Han Soju consistently unlocks entirely new cocktail programs, offering operators a high-margin revenue stream without the complexity or cost of a full liquor license. Once introduced, the product demonstrates strong retention, with consistent reorder rates driven by both consumer demand and operational value.
Today, Han Soju has established a significant presence across California, achieving widespread placement and sustained growth. The brand’s performance is further supported by LibDib’s tiered pricing model, which has improved margins while enabling scale.
“The decision made itself,” said Alpers. “The economics supported the growth.”
Looking ahead, Han Soju is poised to expand beyond its core on-premise beer and wine base as awareness of premium soju continues to rise. Favorable consumer trends—including increasing demand for lower-proof spirits and cleaner flavor profiles—are expected to accelerate adoption across both full-liquor and off-premise channels.
For Han Soju, the conclusion is clear: aligning distribution strategy with how a brand actually sells creates not just growth—but repeatable success. Through its partnership with LibDib, the company has achieved a new level of speed, flexibility, and autonomy in the modern spirits market.
